First Recipient of Women in Aviation Chuck Yeager Foundation Scholarship Announced

At the 17th Annual Women in Aviation International Conference this spring (March 23-25), WAI and its members awarded the first Chuck Yeager Scholarship. The recipient was Maria Faith Weybrecht, of Eastlake, Ohio.

A month after earning her private pilot certificate in 2003, Maria learned that she had cancer and lost her medical. Instead of giving up on aviation, she founded Kids in Flight, a non-profit organization that uses aviation as a tool to empower seriously ill children and their families through flight experiences and educational programs. Maria also graduated summa cum laude witha bachelor's degree in Journalism from Cleveland State University in December, 2005.

WAI scholarship information for 2007 will be posted in early August at www.wai.org. The deadline for submitting applications will be November 3, and scholarship will be awarded between February 15-17, 2007, during the 18th annual conference at the Disney Coronado Springs Hotel in Orlando, FL.
